Celebrate the end of the football season with this fun OREO Cookie Ball recipe made in your favorite team’s colors!

I am so over the moon elated with this fun recipe because it combines two of my favorite things ever – OREO Cookie Balls and football! I first made OREO cookie balls for my daughter’s 3rd birthday party – 5 years ago. Actually, my sister made them for me. Her birthday is in July so I’m always looking for fun treats that don’t require an oven. OREO cookie balls fit that bill. The cookie balls were the hit of the party and disappeared quickly.

I’ve always made OREO Cookie balls with the basic ingredients – OREO cookies, cream cheese, and chocolate chips for the outside. But with football season ending and everyone focusing on rooting for their favorite teams to win, I thought it would be fun to make some OREO cookie balls in team colors. I choose blue and yellow because I have a team I root in those colors, but just pick your favorite colors and buy the corresponding candy melts.

To get your OREO cookie balls to be roughly the same size, I find it’s easiest to use a 1 Tablespoon cookie scoop. Scoop the dough out, roll it a little bit in to balls, and place on wax paper. Or in my case, that’s a bag from a cereal box because of course I was out of wax paper! You have to improvise.

I’m always a little nervous about dipping things in chocolate. There is a lot of room for a big old mess. But be brave! It’s not hard or scary. I used large wooden kebab skewers to pluck the OREO cookie balls out of the melted candy. You may end up with a little divet missing on the top when you pull the skewer out but just dab some more candy on there and no one will know. Plus that little drizzle of the other color hides a multitude of messes.

I used a plastic disposable icing bag to pipe on the swirls in the alternate colors. Just load in the melted candy with a spatula, snip a small bit of the tip and drizzle on. I absolutely LOVE how they turned out! It was a bit touch and go working with two melted candies at once so feel free to just use one color to dip, let the balls set, and then melt the other color and use that to drizzle.

I picked up all my ingredients for the cookie balls at Walmart. You can use your favorite OREO cookie flavor in these, too! One day I’m going to try out the cake batter flavor. I found the candy melts back in the craft area with the cake decorating supplies. There were lots of fun colors to choose from!

Don’t forget to make my super easy No Sew Football Table Runner to serve your OREO cookie balls on for the BIG GAME next week!

What colors would you choose to make your OREO Cookie Balls in?

OREO Cookie Balls Recipe in Your Favorite Team Colors (8)

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg (8 oz.) brick cream cheese, softened
  • 36 OREO Cookies, finely crushed (about 3 cups)
  • 4 pkg. (4 oz. each) semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted (or candy melts in your favorite team colors!)

Instructions

  1. MIX cream cheese and cookie crumbs until blended.
  2. SHAPE into 48 (1-inch) balls. Freeze 10 min. Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan.
  3. CUSTOMIZE it with your own ingredient additions or decorative skills.
  4. REFRIGERATE 1 hour or until firm.
  5. Share and enjoy!

Notes

To make the cookie balls in team colors, use candy melts in place of the chocolate. After dipping the balls in the melts, let them harden and set. Melt the other color of candy and drizzle that on after the first color is set. It gets messy if you try to drizzle over wet candy!
