I FINALLY FOUND THE PERFECT QUICHE RECIPE

I don’t remember ever having quiche when I was growing up, even though my mom made pie all the time. I think the first time I tried it was at a bridal shower brunch. I loved it, but forgot to get the recipe.

After I had been married for a few years, I started trying quiche recipes hoping to find one my family would eat. None of them were a hit.

Then I got this Sausage Quiche recipe from a friend. It doesn’t call for any fancy ingredients, and it comes together in a snap. But the best part? My family loves it! Including my husband and four boys.

DINNER OR BREAKFAST QUICHE RECIPE

This sausage quiche is great for brunch, and it’s always a hit at baby and bridal showers. When I serve it for breakfast, I usually just whip up a fruit smoothie to go with it.

But to be honest, we usually have it for dinner. It’s wonderful paired with seasonal fresh fruit, but sometimes I whip up some sour cream fruit salad. Everyone in my family loves it.

Whenever you serve it, it’s sure to be a hit with girly girls and manly men alike. 🙂

HOW TO MAKE SAUSAGE QUICHE

Ingredients needed:

  • 9″ pastry crust, unbaked (I usually make it from scratch, but premade works great too.)
  • ground pork sausage (breakfast sausage)
  • diced onion (I use diced yellow onion, but in a pinch you can substitute 1-2 tablespoons of dried minced onion.)
  • mozzarella and cheddar cheese (Or another type of cheese if you prefer.)
  • eggs (I use large eggs.)
  • milk (I use 2%, but any type of milk should work.)
  • salt and pepper

  1. Cook sausage and onion in a skillet over medium high heat till brown, drain well. Spread in the bottom of the pie shell.
  2. Sprinkle cheese evenly over the top of the sausage.
  3. Beat the eggs, milk, and seasonings in a small bowl. Pour into pie shell on top of the other ingredients.
  4. Bake at 375° for about 40-50 minutes, or till crust is light brown and a knife comes out clean.

VARIATIONS:

  • If you prefer, you can substitute Italian sausage for the ground pork.
  • Feel free to add any vegetables of your choosing. Green onions, peppers, or even spinach are tasty.
  • We like a mix of mozzarella and cheddar cheese, but you can use any cheese your family loves.
  • For a spicy kick, try pepper jack cheese, and you could even stir in some red pepper flakes, diced green chilies or jalapenos.

LEFTOVER QUICHE?

Quiche is definitely best fresh when the crust is flaky, but it’s still tasty after a day or two. If you have any leftovers, make sure you store them in the refrigerator. Cover the quiche tightly and it will last for about 3 days. You can just heat individual slices in the microwave.

I don’t personally like freezing egg dishes. But if you must, just make sure you wrap the quiche well in a couple layers of plastic wrap or wrap it and place it in an airtight container. It will last for 1-2 months.
